Women's Golf | October 8

MEDINAH, Ill.—Facing off against a highly competitive field, Caroline Kent led the Northern Illinois University Huskies at the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah.

Emma Thorman (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) entered the NIU record book, landing in the top-20 for lowest 18-hole round with a 69 in the third round of action.

Thorman and Mia Raines (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy Berlin) recorded an eagle on the same hole, a par-5 on hole four. Thorman's eagle came in the third round while Raines carded her eagle in the second round.

"The leaderboard does not justify how well we did as this is one of the strongest fields we have been a part of. Getting into a tournament like this is a testament to level of play we are bringing into NIU golf," said NIU head coach Kim Kester.

Caroline Kent (Frisco, Texas/iUniversity Prep) led the Huskies on the leaderboard, going one under par in the final round of action. Kent carded seven birdies over the tournament, seeing three of them in the second round.

Thorman carded six birdies in total plus an eagle with four birdies coming in the third round. Thorman went three under par in the third round to finish in the top-60. Raines, who competed as an individual, carded seven birdies and the eagle over three rounds of action.

Jóhanna Lúðvíksdóttir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland) had five birdies in the second round as she carded seven birdies on the first day. Lúðvíksdóttir went two under par in the second round, shooting a 70 for the lowest Huskie finish in that round.

Alexa Ouellet (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/De La Salle College) and Dakota Tallent (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) rounded out the Huskie competitors. Ouellet led the Huskies with 10 birdies, carding four in the first and second rounds. Tallent carded five birdies for the Huskies, with three coming in the second round.

"We have two very elite fields back-to-back, and we know what we have to adjust before Jim West. We brought our best game to this tournament. I'm super proud of how they fought throughout the week and a lot of good things ahead for this team," noted Kester.

The Huskies return to action on Oct. 20-21 as they compete at the Jim West Challenge in San Marcos, Texas.
