Impacted Northern Illinois Intercollegiate Athletics, hundreds of student-athletes, staff, faculty, and current Sports Medicine techniques as school's first Certified Athletic Trainer. Inducted as charter member of Illinois Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame (1984). Co-founder of Illinois Athletic Trainers Association (1970). Aided passage of Illinois Athletic Trainers Act that regulated professional standards (1986). Member of National Athletic Trainers Association. Served as chief trainer in Amoco corporate fitness program in Chicago (1974-95). Worked as student trainer at NIU (1946-50), as grad assistant (1951), as faculty assistant (1963), plus head trainer and assistant professor in physical education (1966-74). Worked with three NIU HOF teams as trainer (1) undefeated IIAC football squad (9-0 in 1951), (2) College Division National Championship football team (10-0 in 1963), and (3) Top 20 men's basketball quintet (21-4 in 1971-72). Served as head trainer at Illinois State (1964-65). Started therapeutic rehab program in NIU physical education courses. Conducted Outreach Program clinics with Chicago Public League personnel (1969-70). Cited by Northern Illinois academic colleagues for Excellence in Teaching Award (1974). Helped establish Al Kranz Athletic Training Scholarship for NIU students. Taught at Plainfield High School, NIU, ISU, George Williams College, and University of Chicago. Inducted into PHS HOF as grid aide (2006). Played football and basketball at Libertyville High School in early 1940s prior to serving in U. S. Army during World War II. Rondout (IL) product.
