Productive as student-athlete and long-time coach/teacher. Two-time Hall of Famer. Awarded eight Northern Illinois varsity letters in football (4) and baseball (4). Named on NIU All-Decade Team during grid Centennial (1999). Started at HB and topped 9-0 HOF and IIAC kingpin in rushing (1951). Lettered as HB and QB under Hall of Fame head coach George "Chick" Evans (1951-54). Topped Huskies in rushing (395 64 carries in 1951 and 236 yards on 91 plays in 1954), punting (36.4 ypp. avg. in 1952 and 35.2 ypp. in 1953), total offense (710 yards in 1952), all-purpose yardage (452 in 1954), and kickoff returns (nine for 175 yards in 1951, 13 for 274 yards in 1952, 11 for 196 yards in 1953, and eight for 110 yards in 1954). Won monograms as pitcher in baseball for HOF coach Ralph McKinzie (1952-55). Honored as NIU diamond MVP as soph (1953) and senior (1955). Led Huskie mound staff in ERA (4.63 in 1954 and 3.08 in 1955), wins (two in 1954 and three in 1955), games (12 in 1954 and 10 in 1955), innings (68 in 1954 and 81 2/3 in 1955), and strikeouts (51 in 1954 and 55 in 1955). Produced 105-34-2 won-lost-tie record in 16 years as head football coach at Barrington High School (1971-86). Developed nine North Suburban Conference and one Mid-Suburban League title elevens. Qualified for IHSA grid playoffs three times. Named MSL North Coach of Year (1977). Coached BHS all-star Gary Fencik (Chicago Bears). Inducted into IHSFCA (1983) and BHS Coaches (1992) HOFs.
