Described by student newspaper as "smashing" two-way end on gridiron, plus a "hot-shot high-pointer" and "ten-goal man" as sharp-shooting guard-forward on hardwood. Won support in balloting for Northern Illinois All-Century Team in football and basketball. Awarded 11 "NI" varsity monograms in three sports?football (3), basketball (4), and baseball (4). Contributed to Little 19 Conference championships in football for Hall of Fame coach George "Chick" Evans (6-1-1 in 1938) and basketball under HOF mentor Ralph McKinzie (15-3 in 1940-41). Two-time NIU cage captain (1939-41). Selected on All-Decade Team (1930s) during football Centennial celebration (1999). Lettered in football on combined 17-6-2 won-lost-tie squads (6-1-1 in 1938, 5-2-1 in 1939, and 6-3-0 in 1940). Honored on All-Century Team in basketball during Centennial (2000-01). Considered "...best shot in conference" as senior. Ranked No. 2 in Northern Illinois scoring in final two campaigns (126 points as junior). Voted team co-captain, NIU Most Valuable Player, and All-Little 19 (1940-41). Averaged 20.3 ppg. in final three regular-season Little 19 triumphs and scored 23 points vs. Western Illinois (3-1-41) in league title-clinching contest. Produced 22 points vs. Southern Illinois (2-22-41). Played outfield in baseball. Served in U. S. Army Air Corps as physical training officer in World War II (1942-46).
