The third brother combination (Kellars and Gulliksons) and the fifth major-college Northern Illinois All-America pick enshrined into Hall of Fame. Joined older brother and fellow Huskie All-America Johnny B. Johnson (class of 1983). Three-time NCAA Championships qualifier and Northern Illinois wrestling MVP (1972-74). Gained Division I All-America status as a sophomore by placing fifth at 1972 NCAA Championships in 158-pound weight class. Defeated Big Eight (12) Conference, Pac-8 (10) Conference, and Eastern Intercollegiate champs in 1972 wrestle backs en route to No. 5 finish. Wound up seventh at 150 pounds in 1973 NCAA Championships as junior. Produced 82-21-3-23 won-lost-draw-pin career record (.788 winning pct. in three campaigns). Went 25-7-1 with nine pins, first place in Midwestern Conference Championships, second place in Coast Guard Academy Tournament, and third place in NCAA Eastern Regional at 158 as soph. Recorded 29-8-1 mark with seven falls at three weights (150, 158, and 167 pounds), third-place finish at NCAA Eastern Regional (150), and fifth at prestigious Midlands Tournament (158) as junior. Finished senior year as team co-captain, Illinois Invitational champion (158), and runner-up at NCAA Eastern Regional (150) with 28-6-1-7 ledger. Lettered on Northern Illinois mat squads under Hall of Fame coach Don Flavin that went 11-1-0 (1971-72), 14-2-1 (1972-73), and 13-3-2 (1973-74) in dual-meet competition. Three-sport star at North Chicago High. Two-time IHSA wrestling tourney qualifier.
