Teacher / coach with wide-ranging career and major impact on students. Enshrined into at least three halls of fame. Captained first Northern Illinois football bowl squad (1946). Honored on All-Decade (1940s) unit during NIU grid Centennial (1999). Tutored 1972 Olympic U. S. weight man Brian Oldfield at Elgin High School during 37-year teaching tenure. Earned four "NI" letters in football (1940-42, 1946) and participated in track (1942-43, 1946). Played fullback and tackle. Selected team captain and Second-Team All-IIAC tackle on 8-2-0 league kingpins and Turkey Bowl squad under HOF coach George "Chick" Evans as senior (1946). One of eight NIU Athletics Hall of Famers and ten All-IIAC performers on Huskie post-World War II grid powerhouse that played Evansville in Turkey Bowl appearance (11-28-46). Named team MVP as junior on 4-1-2 Little 19 Conference grid runners-up (1942). Contributed to Little 19 team crown in track (1942). Served in U. S. Army Air Corps in World War II and received Bronze Star for duty in South Pacific (1943-45). Coached at Mt. Carroll High School (1947-54) and Elgin High School (1954-84). Led Maroons to unbeaten season and Big Eight title as head football coach (1958). Directed EHS boys' track program to two league crowns and four county titles (with 76 state qualifiers). Known as "Voice of Maroons" for three decades as PA announcer at Memorial Field and as starter in track. Inducted into Northwestern Illinois and Elgin halls of fame. All-Stater gridder at Princeton High School (Deceased).
