Idolized by area youngsters as three-sport standout in mid-1930s. Awarded 11 Northern Illinois varsity monograms in football (4), wrestling (3), and track (4). Two-sport team captain. Described as "190-pound powerhouse (left) tackle." Won NIU Senior Award "for athletic and academic proficiency (1936-37)." Honored on All-Decade Team (1930s) during NIU grid Centennial (1999). Earned "NI" football letters under HOF coach George "Chick" Evans (1933-36), plus track awards for HOF coach Carl Appell (1934-37). Contributed to three Little 19 Conference team titles (football in 1935, plus track in 1935 and 1937). Played on combined 21-9-4 won-lost-tie football squads (5-4 in 1933, 5-1-2 in 1934, 7-1-1 league kingpins in 1935, and 4-3-1 in 1936). Voted Honorable Mention UP(I) All-Little 19 as junior (1935) and Honorable Mention International News Service All-Little 19 as senior (1936). Served as NIU grid co-captain in final campaign. Three-year track captain and two-time Little 19 outdoor 440-yard champion (1935 & 1936). Contributed 10 1/2 team points by winning loop outdoor 440 (Little 19-record :48.9 time) and half-mile (1:58.9) runs, plus anchored winning mile relay unit at Little 19 meet as sophomore (1935). Repeated Little 19 crown in 440 as junior (1936). Placed in four events at Little 19 track meet (third in half-mile, fourth in 440, plus two relays) as senior (1937). Set league and school 440 record. Participated in 1936 U. S. Olympic Trials. World War II U. S. Navy & D-Day vet. Streator native (Deceased).
