Classic power forward in basketball and hard-throwing pitcher in baseball. Two-sport All-IIAC pick and team MVP. Tied for ninth in overall balloting and made All-Century Team during hardwood Centennial (2000-01). Earned eight Northern Illinois varsity letters in basketball (4) and baseball (4). Graduated with (then) school records in career scoring (1,376 points) and rebounding (990) in 85 appearances (1956-60). Recorded five point-rebound "double double" averages?(1) career (16.2 ppg. and 11.1 rbpg. in 1956-60), (2) frosh (12.8 ppg. and 10.4 rbpg. in 1956-57), (3) soph (13.6 ppg. and 12.1 rbpg. in 1957-58), (4) junior (18.4 ppg. and 12.9 rbpg. in 1958-59), and (5) senior (19.9 ppg. and 11.0 rbpg. in 1959-60) under coach Bill Healey. Four-time all-league selection on hardwood (Honorable Mention All-IIAC as frosh, Second-Team All-IIAC as soph and junior, plus First-Team All-IIAC as senior) and three-time Northern Illinois team MVP (1957-60). Named First-Team NAIA District 20 on 14-7 quintet as senior. Played on NCAA College Division tourney as soph (1957-58). Led Huskies in scoring (417 points in 1959-60), field goals (168 in 1959-60), FG pct. (.450 in 1959-60), and rebounding (266 in 1957-58 and 284 in 1958-59). Repeat First-Team All-IIAC pick on diamond (1959-60). Went 5-2 with 3.29 ERA with 57 strikeouts in 60 2/3 innings (1959) and 4-2 with 4.29 ERA and 65 strikeouts in 58 2/3 innings (1960). Won 10 letters and two MVP awards at Clinton (IL) High. Played CHS basketball for NIU Hall of Famer Bill Minnihan.
