Renown as Northern Illinois' first major-college track and field All-America pick and school's second 60-foot shot put strongman. Participated at U. S. Olympic Trials three times (1972, 1976, 1980) and became finalist for American squad with 65 foot, three inch shot put performance (1980). Qualified for five NCAA Championship meets and competed in four NCAAs (two indoor and two outdoor in 1972-73). Became first Huskie to win a national track and field medal and All-America status at Division I level by placing fifth at NCAA Indoor Championships in Detroit (MI) with a throw of 60-3 1/4 (March 9, 1973). Finished seventh nationally as senior with a school-record 61-8 effort at NCAA Outdoor Championships in Baton Rouge (LA) (June 8, 1973). Produced ninth-place finish as junior with a 59-10 throw at NCAA Championships at Eugene (OR) (June 2, 1972). Unloaded a 63-10 1/2 distance for the University of Chicago Track Club at National AAU Championships (1975). Recorded first "60" with meet-record 60-7 toss in Midwestern Conference meet (May 19, 1972). Graduated with NIU records in shot put and discus (163-10 in 1971). Major Collegiate Outdoor Titles: Kentucky Relays (1972-73), Illinois Intercollegiate (1972-73), and Midwestern Conference. Tallied 475 points in four varsity seasons and won Ed Behan Memorial Trophy as team scoring leader in 1972 (176 points) and 1973 (147). Named team co-captain and MVP as senior. Coached weightmen at UTEP (1974). Six-time city champ at Chicago Lane Tech (Deceased).
