Two-sport collegian with six varsity letters. Nicknamed "Mr. Hat Trick" as prolific center-forward. Renown as pioneer Northern Illinois men's soccer mega-scorer with blistering shot and deft moves in penalty area against multiple defenders during early Division I years. Set school match (four goals), single-season (16), and career (43) scoring records during three-season career (1967-69). Shared Northern Illinois career standard for most hat trick performances (5) with Honorable Mention All-America striker Ed Kositzki. Produced school's first hat trick with three goals vs. Illinois (November 4, 1967). The other Roy hat tricks: (1) four goals vs. Western Illinois (October 23, 1967), (2) three goals vs. Michigan (September 13, 1969), (3) four goals vs. Wisconsin (September 20, 1969), and (4) three goals vs. Bradley (October 11, 1969). Ranked among all-time Northern Illinois leaders in (1) career goals, (2) season goals (16 in 1968 and 15 in 1969), (3) career points (95 on 43 goals and nine assists), and (4) season points (37 on 16 goals and five assists in 1968). Named Huskie MVP as soph (1967) and junior (1968). Lettered three times on squads that finished a cumulative 21-3 under Bill Healey (1967-68) and Dave Bucher (1969). Won three letters as 191-pounder and heavyweight in wrestling at Northern Illinois (1966-69). Brother of former Northern Illinois head men's soccer coach Willy Roy. Served as athletics director at East Leyden High. Started boys' soccer program at Willowbrook High (1971). Wrestled and ran track at Reavis High.
