Hall of Fame
Three-sport student-athlete who garnered All-Century Team votes with Northern Illinois major sport teams in football and basketball. Inducted into NIU Athletics Hall of Fame as individual (1983) and enshrined as member of fabled 1933-34 cage squad (1984). Earned 11 total "NI" varsity monograms in football (3), basketball (4), and baseball (4) and won First-Team All-Little 19 Conference accolades in two sports. Selected on All-Century cage unit during Centennial (2000-01) and named NIU All-Decade (1930s) on gridiron (1999). Gained First-Team All-Little 19 status on hardwood as freshman guard. Known for his defense, dependability, and "a (then) radical one-handed push shot." Helped spark head coach George "Chick" Evans' quintet to back-to-back Little 19 titles as soph and junior (1932-34). One of five Northern Illinois Athletics HOFers on storied club that captured last seven regular-season games, finished 15-2 overall, ruled Little 19, and earned post-season trip to Atlanta (GA) for exhibition games vs. Kansas and Pittsburgh at annual National Associaton of Basketball Coaches meetings as junior (1933-34). Played on 15-3 Little 19 titlists as soph (1932-33). Made all-tourney unit on Illinois State Teachers College Tournament champs (1931-32). Tabbed First-Team All-Little 19 end in football (1934). Performed on mound and at first base for Little 19 baseball kingpins as senior (1935). Born and raised in DeKalb. DHS product. Coached football, basketball, and track at Rochelle High until his retirement (1942-73) (Deceased).
