Described as “mini-Charles Barkley.” Nicknamed “D-Train” for relentless pursuit of rebounds at 6-foot-4. Voted among NIU’s Top Five Players of The First Century (2001), plus named on All-Decade (1990), All-Time Chick Evans Field House (1997), and All-Century (2001) units. Ranked No. 1 in NIU consecutive games (115), No. 2 in career scoring (1,853 points), No. 2 in career starts (105), No. 3 in career field goals (662), No. 4 in career boards (984), and No. 6 in career point-rebound “double doubles” (37). Led team in scoring three straight years (18.0 ppg. in 1988-89, 17.8 ppg. in 1989-90, and 17.0 ppg. in 1990-91). Only modern era NIU player to lead team in rebounding four consecutive seasons (8.5 rbpg. in 1987-88, 9.6 rbpg. in 1988-89, 8.0 rbpg. in 1989-90, and 8.2 rbpg. in 1990-91). Named tourney MVP and All-Jowers Jamboree, First-Team All-Mid-Continent Conference, and All-Mid-Con Post-Season Tourney on 25-6 loop champ and NCAA entry as senior. Picked First-Team NABC and Basketball Times All-District, plus Honorable Mention Basketball Weekly All-Midwest (1990-91). Tabbed CBS-TV Player of Game vs. No. 20 St. John’s with game-high 23 points and 12 rebounds in NCAA Regional (1990-91). Named All-District three times (1988-91), NIU co-captain twice (1988-89, 1990-91), team MVP (1988-89), and McLendon Classic MVP (1988-89). Made First-Team Basketball Weekly Frosh All-America. Played in WBL, CBA, and four countries. All-Stater on 26-4 Chicago Robeson High quintet as senior (1986-87).
