Long-ball hitter and straight off tee. Second Mid-American Conference medalist in school history. Knocked in first hole-in-one at age eight. Qualified for Centel Western Open at Butler National Golf Course (1990). Two-time Honorable Mention All-America by National Collegiate Golf Coaches Association in Golf World magazine (1978-79). Played in NCAA Championships (1979) and Southwestern Amateur Golf Tournament (1979). Repeated as First-Team All-MAC selection (1978-79). Took Mid-Am medalist honors as soph with 292 total including meet-best, six-under-par 66 in first round (1978). Voted MAC Golf Sportsman of Year (1980). Two-time Padre Island Invitational medalist (1979-80) and Playboy All-America choice (1977-78). Three-time Huskie MVP for Hall of Fame head coach Jack Pheanis (1978-80) and two-time captain (1979-80). Averaged team-leading 76.9 strokes-per-round as soph (17 rounds), 75.0 as junior (20 rounds), 75.2 as senior (19 rounds), and 75.6 for career (56 rounds). Charter inductee into NIU Men's Golf Hall of Fame (1992). Transferred from powerhouse University of Houston program. Won Wisconsin State Open (1984) and State Amateur (1980) meets. Placed in Top 15 at prestigious Porter Cup Invitational and played in Nelthorpe Cup Pro-Am (1978). Won Wisconsin Junior (1973) and state prep title (1974). Former club pro at The Oak Club of Genoa and now at Tanglewood Golf Course in Lake Texoma, TX. Son Jeff signed NIU National Letter in golf (2007). Eau Claire (WI) Memorial High product.
