Grand Slam player/coach. Named initial NIU tennis All-America pick and state's first male All-America netter since Marty Reissen (Northwestern in 1964) as junior by Intercollegiate Tennis Coaches Association (1972). Left-handed twin and older brother. Enshrined with Tim into ITA Men's Tennis Hall of Fame (May, 1999). Said the ITA: "The Gulliksons put Northern Illinois on the tennis map in 1972 and 1973, forming one of the top ranked doubles teams in the nation." Three-year NCAA Championships participant (1970, 1972-73). Played No. 1 singles, led Huskies to 18-3 record, and scored program's first ever points at NCAA Division I meet level as frosh (1970). Posted 76-20 career singles mark and went 81-13 in doubles at NIU. Played on NIU frosh cagers (1969-70). Returned to alma mater as head men's coach, posted 13-9 dual-meet record, plus tutored three loop singles finalists and first MAC champs (Andy Wiles-Bob Laser at No. 2 doubles in 1974). Rated in doubles with Tim as high as No. 9 and No. 38 in pro singles. Ranked among world's Top 75 for eight of nine years (1977-85). Held career wins vs. Bjorn Borg, Vitas Gerulaitis, Illie Nastese, Stefan Edberg, and Jimmy Connors. Won U. S. Open mixed doubles title (1984). Coached Todd Martin, Jennifer Capriati, Jim Courier, and Andy Roddick in USTA Player Development Program. Named U. S. Davis Cup captain (1994-99) and beat Russia for Davis Cup (1995). Guided Andre Agassi to Gold Medal at Atlanta Olympics as U. S. coach (1976). Established Tim & Tom Gullikson Foundation for cancer patients. Onalaska (WI) native.
