International and national racquet phenom. Became Northern Illinois' first women's national individual titlist. Led Huskies to school's first-ever national AIAW team crown and second straight state title as frosh. Named Broderick Award recipient as sport's outstanding competitor and made ballot for prestigious Broderick Cup as country's top female college athlete (1981-82). Earned AIAW Division A All-State and All-America honors. Wrote NIU history and won AIAW national singles title as No. 4 seed by upending No. 1 seed Claire Allison (Wisconsin), 11-8, 11-9, in finals (March 6, 1982). "Choo played super, simply super," said NIU coach Paul Deloca. "She had the mental discipline to overcome her injury (pulled stomach muscle)...she was the class of the field." Road to AIAW title: Beat Sue Weskel (Temple), 11-4, 11-1; edged Gena Weber (Arizona State), 11-1, 8-11, 11-4; topped Peggy Doyle (George Washington), 11-2, 11-0; and bested Brenda Nobauer (Arizona State), 11-4, 11-2. Helped clinch team national title with 12-10, 8-11, 11-7 win over Heather Ross (Arizona State) in semis. Finished year with 23-3 (.885 pct.) match record, 45-11 game mark, and 573-292 point advantage. Beat Canadian National Junior champ Allison (Wisconsin) in first two college meets. Voted team MVP. Received NIU Presidential Award. Won Malaysian Junior National crown and played for her nation's Uber Cup unit?badminton's Davis Cup. Completed career when badminton was curtailed by women's program move to NCAA. Native of Fair Park, Ipoh, Malaysia.
