Dan Jaques was a member of the NIU cross country and track & field programs, setting NIU records on the track in the 110-meter high hurdles and the 200-meter dash. Jaques was a conference champion and qualified for the NCAA Championships in 1971, ’72 and ’73 in the hurdles.
In 1971, Jaques won conference championships in both the indoor and outdoor 110-meter high hurdles and also advanced to the semifinals at the NCAA Championships in both events. The following season, Jaques set a NIU record with a time of 13.9 seconds in the 110-meter high hurdles at the Kentucky Relays and also set a school record in the 200 meters with a time of 21.3 seconds at the NIU Invitational. That season, Jaques won the conference indoor and outdoor high hurdles conference championship while also reaching the semifinals of the 60-meter indoor high hurdles and the 110-meter outdoor high hurdles at the NCAA Championships. Later that summer, Jaques competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 110-meter hurdles and was ranked in the top-40 in the world by “Track and Field News.”
Jaques closed his Huskie career with two more conference championships in the indoor and outdoor high hurdles while once again advancing to the semifinals in the high hurdles at the NCAA Championships.
