Ranked among "The Big Three" with Hall of Famers (QB) Lewis Flinn and (WR) Al Eck on 7-2 Northern Illinois football team that finished tied for second place in Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and No. 17 in final NAIA College Division poll (1959). Named on NAIA Little All-America (Honorable Mention) squad with Flinn (Second-Team) and Eck (Second-Team), plus made First-Team All-IIAC (1959). Finished senior year rated No. 50 in NCAA College Division rushing (698 yards). Rewrote school career rushing record?held by Hall of Fame FB Bob Brigham (1,221 yards in 1947-49)?and ranks among Top 25 on all-time list (1,315 yards). Rushed for 110 yards and two TDs on 22 carries to set career rushing mark vs. Eastern Michigan (1959). Led team in rushing twice (511 yards in 1958 and 698 yards in 1959), scoring (36 points in 1958), and passing (154 yards in 1956). Recorded two of longest rushing gains in school history?(1) 70-yard TD vs. Wheaton College (1959) and (2) 69-yarder vs. North Central (1959). Tabbed Third-Team All-IIAC as junior. Completed career with 1,444 all-purpose yards, 1,469 total offense yards, and 18 TDs. Lettered in football (4) and baseball (4). Led IIAC in hitting (.455 average) and made First-Team All-IIAC on mound (1959). Won All-IIAC honors at both P-OF and placed second in loop MVP balloting (1961). Served in U. S. Army (1959-60).
