Remarkable story of national caliber goalie who enrolled at Northern Illinois in CHANCE Program and graduated with a 3.00 cumulative gpa. Protected four-yard wide, three-yard high goal cage despite petite 5-foot-3 frame. with incredible work ethic, extraordinary hand-eye coordination, and unwavering mental and physical stamina. Participated in United States Field Hockey Association's Olympic Developmental A Camp as one of top eight keepers in nation (1988). "On our Top 20 team, the defense was all based on Colleen in the cage," said former NIU field hockey coach Laurie Bell. "You have to remember that when we were playing Iowa and Northwestern, Colleen was going against many Olympians." Completed Huskie career with Division I school-record 722 saves and 13 shutouts in 61 matches (1984-88). Credited with 132 saves and single-season record nine shutouts. Allowing only 0.9 goals-per-match on 15-3-1 squad that captured the Midwest Independent Tournament title and finished No. 19 in final NCAA Division I poll as senior. Named senior tri-captain and Honorable Mention College Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Midwest (1988). Recorded 252 saves and four shutouts in 19 matches as junior. Named team captain, Best Defensive Player, MVP, and First-Team All-Midwest Independent Tournament (1987). Made career-high 36 saves vs. ranked Iowa (1984). Stopped 27 shots vs. No. 2 North Carolina (1987) and vs. No. 11 Northwestern (1987). Three-sport star at Brogue (PA) Red Lion High School.
