A two-time National Association of College Gymnastics Coaches All-America on the floor exercise, Mark Goodson was a four-time NCAA qualifier in that event. As a freshman in 1976-77, Goodson qualified for the NCAA Championships on the floor, capturing 12th in the event. The following season in 1977-78, Goodson earned All-American honors for the first time, posting a combined score of 18.90 on the floor to take fourth at the National Championships.Â
As a junior in 1978-79, he once against posted a combined score of 18.90 at the NCAA Finals, tying for fifth place while earning his second-straight All-America honor. During his senior season in 1979-80, the Glyn Ellyn, Ill., native once again qualified for the NCAA Championships while setting a pair of school records. He matched his own mark on the floor of 9.55, first set at the 1979 NCAA Championships, while also tying the NIU record on the vault with a score of 9.55.Â
Goodson was previously inducted into the NIU Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of the 1978-79 Men’s Gymnastics Team in 2010.Â
