One of NIU's most recognizable all-time football names. Synonymous with forward pass. Trail blazed many program firsts (1) first NCAA QB at any level to throw for 3,000 yards in single season (1963), (2) first Huskie with Heisman Trophy votes (1963), (3) first NIU inductee in College Football Hall of Fame (1999), and (4) first NIU football-basketball All-America pick. Made national headlines as First-Team Little All-America QB on 10-0-0 IIAC and Mineral Water Bowl title teams, plus AP and NAIA College Division National Champions as senior. Impetus for new facility ("House That Bork Built") (1965), University Division (1969), and MAC (1973). Set at least 16 national records and hit 244-of-374 passes for 3,077 yards and 32 TDs in fabled "Blitz-T" attack (1963). Completed 43-of-68 for 416 yards vs. Central Michigan (1963). Led NCAA College Division twice in passing and total offense (1962-63). Repeated as team MVP, First-Team All-IIAC, IIAC POY, and unanimous First-Team AP, UPI, Williamson Service, and NAIA All-America (1962-63). Gained votes as AP and UPI "major" All-America (1963). Played in North-South Shrine Game and SWC Challenge Bowl (1963). Posted 6,782 career air yards and 60 TDs in football and 1,114 points at guard in basketball (1960-63). Made HM NAIA cage All-America (1962-63). Two-time team MVP, First-Team All-IIAC, loop scoring champ, and IIAC POY in basketball (1961-63). Lettered in football (4) and basketball (3). Played QB on CFL Montreal Alouettes (1964-67). Two-sport All-Century pick. No. 11 QB jersey retired (1996). Mount Prospect native. Arlington High grad.
