Gained international prominence in first and only season for first-year Northern Illinois coach Gordon Scoles (1974-75). Qualified for NCAA Division I Championship finals twice (indoor & outdoor meets) as senior. Produced program's best NCAA D-I finish in track by placing fourth in 35-lb. weight throw indoors (NIU-record 65-2 1/2) and became school's second Division I track All-America (March, 1975). Improved distances with "new" three-turn technique. Won 35-lb. weight throw five times---Chicagoland Invitational (59-7), Western Michigan Relays (56-2), Illinois Intercollegiate (54-2 1/4), Central Collegiate (55-7), and MAC Invitational (62-1). Captured outdoor titles in hammer throw at prestigious Drake Relays (192-5), Eastern Illinois Relays (193-8), Illinois Intercollegiate (NIU-record 204-7), MAC (200-3), and Central Collegiate (194-1). Capped senior campaign by placing third at USTFF nationals (190-3) and 12th at NCAA (191-9) (1975). Ranked No. 8 in world in 35-lb. weight (65-2 1/2) and No. 16 in hammer (204-7) by Track and Field News (1975). Transferred from Western Illinois when Scoles moved to NIU. Captured Drake Relays (173-10) title and placed fifth at NCAA College Division meet as WIU hammer entry (1973). Competed for UCTC (1976-78). Rated No. 5 in U. S. with career best 212-5 hammer throw (1978). Competed in first National Sports Festival (1978). Qualified for U. S. Olympic Team camp (1976, 1980). Participated in Scottish Highland Games (1978-2008). Set world record in 16-lb. Sheaf Toss four times. Pictured in People magazine with actor Charlton Heston in NYC demonstration of Caber toss (1988). National award-winning educator. Four-sport BHS athlete.
