Hall of Fame
(Charter Member). Pioneer student-athlete at Northern Illinois and long-time coach / administrator at Western Illinois. Enshrined into both institutions' respective Athletic Halls of Fame. Two-sport All-Little 19 Conference pick and two-sport captain for Huskies. Awarded five "NI" varsity letters in four sports?basketball (2), football (1), baseball (1), and golf (1). Honored on Northern Illinois All-Century Team during basketball Centennial (2000-01). One of early "goal throwers" who shredded double teams. Described in The Norther yearbook as "shadow, captain, and forward...the lightest and smallest man (5-foot-9, 155 pounds), but the biggest point getter (1920-21)." Captained 12-4 Northern Illinois quintet that swept five straight post-season games to win title at Minor Colleges of Illinois Tournament (1920-21). Scored 26 points (13 baskets) vs. Joliet Junior College, 22 vs. Northwestern Academy, plus 20 vs. Wheaton College and vs. Crane Tech (1919-20). Named First-Team All-Little 19 as senior. Led Huskie cagers in scoring twice (1919-21). Played outfield and voted baseball captain (1920). Captured Little 19 tourney medalist honors in golf (1920). Served in U. S. Army during World War I (1917-19). Inducted into WIU Athletics Hall of Fame (1974). Taught in WIU Department of Physical Education for 29 years (1937-65) with stints as athletics director, head football coach, head baseball coach, and head golf coach. Led WIU to first unbeaten gridiron season (5-0-2 in 1942). Coached at DeKalb High in 1920s. DeKalb native (Deceased).
