A two-time All-American and three-time Mid-American Conference champion, Scott Owen posted an outstanding 116-22 overall record on the mat as a Huskie. After reaching the NCAA Championships at 141 pounds in 1999, Owen returned to the championship three-times at 157 pounds (2001, '02 and '03).
After receiving a medical redshirt in 1997-98, Owen posted a 21-9 mark during the 1998-99 season and qualified for the NCAA Championships after a second-place finish at the MAC Championship, where he was named co-MAC Freshman of the Year, at 141 pounds.Â
Owen missed the 1999-2000 season due to injury before moving up to 157 pounds in 2000-01, where he posted a 32-6 mark, including a perfect 5-0 in MAC duals. Owen won the MAC crown at 157 before moving on to the NCAA Championships where he posted a pair of victories.Â
As a junior in 2001-02, Owen posted a 34-3 mark, including nine pins, with a perfect 5-0 record in duals. Owen collected 128 dual points and won his second consecutive MAC Championship at 157 pounds, helping the Huskies to a second-place team finish. Owen claimed All-America honors with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships and also earned Second Team Academic All-America honors.Â
Owen capped his outstanding career with another MAC Championship and another fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championship to earn All-America honors for the second-straight year. Owen posted a 23-3 overall record with five pins and nine technical falls and he once again helped the Huskies to a second-place finish at the conference championship.
