Nicknamed "The Human Bulldozer" for relentless tackle-to-tackle running style as a 5-foot-9, 203-pound fullback. One-time Northern Illinois single-season (866 yards in 1968) and all-time (2,227 career yards in 1968-70) rushing leader. First career 2,000-yard Huskie ballcarrier. Selected on All-Decade Team (1960s) during football Centennial (1999) and All-Time Huskie Stadium Team (1995). Named Honorable Mention AP University Division (1-A) All-America with Tom Gatewood (Notre Dame), Rex Kern (Ohio State), Joe Theisman (Notre Dame), and Mike Adamle (Northwestern) as junior (1969). Rushed for 100 yards or more 12 times in 26 NIU games. Rushed for career-high 180 yards on 29 attempts vs. unbeaten MAC and Tangerine Bowl kingpin Toledo (11-8-69). Contributed 126 "muddy" yards on 24 carries in final contest on Huskie Stadium natural grass during 7-6 triumph vs. Bowling Green State (11-16-68) for NIU's first grid victory vs. NCAA Division I opponent. Posted 125 yards on 19 rushes vs. No. 16-ranked and MAC champion Ohio (11-23-68). Produced 134 yards on 30 attempts vs. San Diego State (9-12-70). Gained season-high 148 rushing yards on 20 runs vs. Xavier (OH) (10-19-68) and added 145 on 31 plays in Xavier (OH) rematch (9-26-70). Named NIU quad-captain as senior (1970). Led team in rushing in 1968 (866 yards), 1969 (813 yards), and 1970 (548 yards), plus total offense in 1969 (955 yards) and 1970 (624 yards). Wisconsin transfer. Initiated NIU Lalonde Scholar-Athlete Award (1983). HM All-State RB at Downers Grove North High.
