Coached by Northern Illinois athletics patriarch George "Chick" Evans as prep (three years) and collegian (four years). Two-time NIU Athletics Hall of Famer. Garnered votes on school All-Century Team squads in football and basketball. Played guard on HOF quintet that captured Little 19 Conference championship with 15-2 record, plus appeared in percursor of NCAA Tournament and played vs. Kansas and vs. Pittsburgh in exhibitions at NABC Convention in Atlanta (GA) as senior (1933-34). Selected on NIU All-Decade Team (1899-1929) during football Centennial (1999). Awarded three "NI" monograms on gridiron (1929-30, 1933) and played on teams that combined for 17-7-2 won-lost-tied record. Named First-Team All-Little 19 quarterback on 6-1-1 eleven under first-year head coach Evans as true frosh (1929). Missed 1932 due to personal and family illnesses. Returned to school and served as grid co-captain on 5-4 squad as senior (1933). Received votes on NIU All-Century Team on hardwood during Centennial (2000-01). Coached by Evans in football, basketball, and track for first three years at Boone (IA) High School. Organized youth baseball for boys and softball for girls in Boone. Initiated Little League and Babe Ruth programs (1955) and tutored future NIU HOFer and baseball star Roger Dutton at Little League level. Served Boone Fire Department for 35 years and chief (1963-75) (Deceased).
