Tales of Pete's trademark beret. Initial Northern Illinois soccer First-Team All-America pick. Stingy goalie with tons of Huskie honors, firsts, and school records. Named twice on First-Team National Soccer Coaches Association All-America and All-Midwest squads (1974-75). Selected as finalist for National College Player of the Year as senior (1975). Played for winning West unit (2-0) in Senior Bowl Collegiate All-Star Classic (1975). Invited to U. S. Olympic Trials (1974). Tabbed Honorable Mention All-Midwest, plus notched five shutouts and 108 saves on 7-2-2 NCAA Tournament entry as soph (1973). Credited with 13 shutouts, 1.4 goals-per-match yield, and NIU-record 439 saves in 41 career starts during four campaigns under head coach Dave Bucher. Set school records in match saves (28 vs. Southern Illinois-Edwardsville in 1974), season saves (147 in 1974), and career saves. Voted Northern Illinois team co-captain and MVP (1975). Drafted in second round (21st pick) in NASL draft by San Antonio Thunder (1976). Blanked New York Cosmos and the great Pele (1-0) in first pro match (1976). Played on NASL Southern Division champ Dallas Tornado (1977). Named team MVP and ASL All-Star for Indianapolis Daredevils (1978). Ranked among top MISL keepers (311 saves in 16 matches) for Pittsburgh Spirit (1978-79). Played last MISL season for Buffalo Stallions (1980-81). Inducted into Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame (1998). All-State and All-America goalie at New Trier East (1971).
