Went from finishing 17th in state All-Around as prep senior to U. S. National Team in five years. Considered best six-event man in Northern Illinois gymnastics history. Made U. S. National Team twice (1982-83 & 1985-86). Performed in Pacific Alliance Competition in Melbourne and Canberra, Australia (1982), Friendship Invitational/Goodwill Competition in Bangkok, Thailand (1983), Cup of Americas International Meet in Havana, Cuba (1985), and U. S. Gymnastics Federation Single-Elimination Tournament in Reno, NV (1982). Placed 11th in All-Around (55.75) at U. S. National Sports Festival (July, 1982), 16th in USGF National Championships (110.65 optional-compulsory total) (1982), and second in USGF Mideast Regional (111.35 total) (1982). Took 29th in A-A (109.20) in USGF Championships of U. S. A. (June, 1983). Earned 15th place in A-A (104.05) at USGF Championships of the U. S. A. (June, 1985). Qualified as individual for three straight NCAA Championships (1981-83). Earned All-America status by placing fifth in NCAA floor ex (9.60 in finals) as junior (1982). Finished ninth in A-A (NIU-record 112.10), plus made individual finals in two events?ninth in floor ex (9.50), and 12th on p-bars (9.30) at NCAA as senior (1983). Top All-Arounder on NIU squads that placed sixth (1982) and eighth (1983) in NCAA team competition. Won A-A six times in 13 meets as senior. Took two firsts and set four NIU records (57.45 in All-Around) vs. U.S.S.R. Nationals (Dec. 1, 1982). Set seven school marks (1982-83). Three-time team MVP (1980-83) and captain (1982-83). Prepped at Villa Park (IL) Willowbrook High School.
