Contemporary in more ways than one with all-time vintage Northern Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame greats such as Ed Behan, Chet Davis, Howard Fletcher, Ollie Krahenbuhl, Tego Larsen, and Bob Price. Reached Triple A level in Chicago White Sox farm system (1940-41). Selected on 1930s All-Decade Team during football Centennial (1999) and received votes on All-Century unit in program's basketball 100-year celebration (2000). Collected First-Team All-Little 19 Conference accolades in two major sports (football and basketball). Earned 13 overall varsity "NI" letters in football (4), basketball (4), baseball (4), and track (1). Named two-time, First-Team All-Little 19 Conference end on gridiron (1938-39). Voted on First-Team United Press All-State squad as junior on 6-1-1 and undefeated (4-0-0) league football kingpins under Hall of Fame head coach George "Chick" Evans as junior. Served as co-captain with Paul Blair on 5-2-1 Little 19 grid runners-up as senior (1939). Honored as First-Team All-Little 19 forward on 12-6 Huskie quintet for Evans as junior (1938-39). Won conference batting championship in baseball (1938). Received Northern Illinois bachelor of science in education degree in physical education and industrial arts (1940). Served in U.S. Army during World War II (1941-45). Taught and coached in Rockford School District 205 at Roosevelt and Wilson junior high schools until his retirement (1973). Born in Oelwein (IA) (1918). Graduated from Winnebago High School (1936).
