All-Northern Illinois from head to toe. Son of modern-day Huskie intercollegiate athletics patriarch and charter Hall of Famer George "Chick" Evans. Awarded six varsity "NI" monograms in two sportsÑbasketball (3) and baseball (3). Earned letters as guard on hardwood (1958-59, 1959-60, 1960-61) and at shortstop on diamond (1959, 1960, 1961). Garnered votes on NIU All-Century Team balloting during basketball Centennial celebration (2000-01). Completed basketball days ranked (then) among Top 20 all-time Northern Illinois career scoreers with 688 points in 55 appearances (and 12.5 career average) under head coach William Healey. Ranked No. 4 in team scoring with 8.7 ppg. stats in 15 games on 11-11 squad (1958-59). Finished No. 2 in NIU scoring at 13.1 ppg. in 21 contests on 14-7 quintet (1959-60). Wound up No. 3 in Huskie points with career-best 14.9 ppg. mark on 14-8 club (1960-61). Selected on All-Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball unit for three consecutive springs. Earned First-Team All-IIAC honors as freshman and finished 15th in league hitting (.303 batting average in 17 games). Led Huskies in hits (26), home runs (four), RBIs (25), and slugging pct. (.556), plus made Honorable Mention All-IIAC (1960). Named Second-Team All-IIAC performer as junior (1961). DeKalb High School product. Brother Bob Evans lettered at center in football (1960-63) and started on Hall of Fame 10-0 Northern Illinois football team that won College Division National Championship and Mineral Water Bowl (1963).
