Widely acclaimed multi-sport student-athlete and campus leader turned successful orthopedic surgeon. Named NIU Alumni Association Outstanding Alumni in College of Health and Human Services (2002). Named Northern Illinois SportsWoman of Year Award winner (1982). Selected school's Mid-American Conference Scholar-Athlete Award recipient with highest cumulative gpa (3.97 on 4.00 scale) of all 20 league nominees. Earned spot on National Dean's List as pre-med major for final six semesters (1979-82). Started part-time for Rity Horky-coached Northern Illinois quintet which won first-ever Illinois AIAW state tourney crown and participated in Midwest AIAW Regional (1981-82). Voted to CoSIDA Honorable Mention District Four All-Academic unit on 18-14 Huskie squad which placed second at Mid-Am Invitational as senior. Hit career-high 16 points on 8-of-11 from floor in first start and 75-61 victory vs. Marquette (1981-82). Lettered in basketball (4), track (2), and volleyball (2). Cited Most Improved Track Athlete as frosh. Competed in pentathlon and set school 800-meter record (2:19.7) at NIU Roadrunner Invitational (1979). Student rep on university Athletic Board and member of Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Advisory Board. Won University Scholar Award. Graduated in NIU's inaugural physical therapy class (1982). Named Springfield Magazine's "Area Top Orthopedic Surgeon" (2000). Earned M. D. and serves as associate professor in orthopedic surgery at SIU-Springfield. Three-sport standout at Alexis High School (1974-78).
