High-scoring, full-throttle performer with style and impeccable mat credentials as (1) school's first three-time NCAA Division I Championships qualifier (1975-77), (2) NIU's fifth major-college All-America (1975), and (3) Northern Illinois' first Mid-American Conference individual wrestling champion (1975), and (4) Huskies' first repeat MAC kingpin (1977) for Hall of Fame coach Don Flavin. Won four of seven matches as No. 8 seed and gained All-America status by placing sixth in 190-pound NCAA bracket as soph. Went unbeaten in first 16 NIU matches (15 wins and one draw) prior to first setback in NCAA to No. 1 seed and eventual champion Al Nacin (Iowa State) (1975). Produced 54-9-1-17 won-lost-draw-pin career record. Posted 17-3-1-2 mark as soph, 17-3-0-7 as junior, and 20-3-0-8 as senior. Ripped through MAC opposition for two loop crowns. Placed second in league as junior, qualified for NCAA, but did not compete due to shoulder injury (1976). Three-time Northern Illinois point leader, two-time team MVP (1974-75, 1976-77) and team captain (1975-76, 1976-77). Voted NIU Athlete of Year (1976-77). Transferred from Oklahoma State. Inducted into Waukegan Lions Club Sports Hall of Fame (1999). Prep mat All-America with 70-3 career record at Waukegan East. Won IHSA 185-pound title and named state's Outstanding Wrestler (1972).
