(Charter Member). Accomplished all-around student-athlete with long, diverse, and distinguished career in sporting arena. Former NBA official (1949-52) and NFL referee and crew chief (1953-70). Garnered votes on two Northern Illinois All-Century honor squads. Awarded 12 "NI" varsity letters in three sports?football (4), basketball (4), and baseball (4). Received 17 of possible 29 votes on First-Team All-Century squad during NIU basketball Centennial (2000-01). Utilized 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame at center and forward on hardwood and at end on gridiron. Served as co-captain on Huskies' first Little 19 Conference championship basketball unit (1932-33). Led Northern Illinois in scoring, won team MVP honors, and made First-Team All-Little 19 on 15-3 quintet under Hall of Fame head coach George "Chick" Evans as senior. Won team scoring honors and made All-Illinois Teachers' College Tournament when Huskies took first place and finished 13-6 overall as junior. Earned NIU All-Decade plaudits in football (1999). Coached at South Beloit, Milwaukee University School, and Dwight. Doubled as head football and head basketball coach at Dwight High. Recorded 105-66 record in seven winters as cage boss at DHS (1931-38). Tutored future Illinois "Whiz Kid" Andy Mathieson. Served as communications officer in South Pacific for U. S. Navy during World War II. Returned to NIU as aide in football and basketball. Worked at Illinois in athletics and alumni association. Woodstock (IL) product (Deceased).
