One of all-time Huskie keystone combo (2B-SS) greats. Initial Northern Illinois baseball First-Team All-America selection and one of program's earliest Major League Baseball regular draft picks (1966). Chosen in 12th round (226th player overall) in MLB draft by Washington Senators (now Texas Rangers)?same year that NIU teammate and Hall of Famer Roger Dutton went to New York Yankees (June, 1966). Played professional baseball eight summers (1966-73). Capped senior campaign by being selected First-Team American Association of College Baseball Coaches All-America at second base for head coach Tom Meyer (1966). Two-time Northern Illinois Most Valuable Player and First-Team All-Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference pick (1965-66). Ranks among Top Five all-time Huskie leaders in single-season batting average (.423 in 1966). Lettered in baseball (4). Led NIU in batting average (.423 in 1966), hits (33 in 1966), home runs (four in 1965), RBIs (19 with Dutton in 1966), runs (23 in 1966), total bases (55 in 1965 and 49 in 1966), doubles (nine in 1966), and stolen bases (five in 1963). Named team captain, MVP, and First-Team All-IIAC, plus led Huskies in seven stats categories on 13-6-1 club as senior (1966). Voted NIU MVP, made First-Team All-IIAC at shorstop, and posted .286 batting average in junior campaign (1965). Performed on 23-5 IIAC kingpin as sophomore (1964). Gained Second-Team All-IIAC status as freshman (1963). Two-time Northern Illinois graduate. Beloit (WI) product.
