Four-time NIU Hall of Famer. Inducted as (1) individual (1988), (2) aide on 1963 College Division National Championship football squad (1986), (3) FB on 1951 IIAC title football team (1991), and (4) head coach of 1976 MAC champ and NCAA team-qualifying men's golf unit (1997). Ranks as one of longest tenured Huskies (49 years overall, 46 coaching, 37 as golf coach) in school history. Served as "interim" men's links boss (1957-60). Led NIU to NCAA College Division Midwest Regional (1959) and IIAC (1960) titles. Returned to golf post (1968-69). Tutored two major-college All-Americas and HOFers Mick Soli (1974-76) and Greg Dick (1978-79), four NCAA qualifiers (Dick Suesens in 1972, Soli in 1974-76, Dick in 1979, and Kelly Holmes in 1985), three Academic All-Americas, and 17 all-loop picks. Clinched seven league team crownsÑIIAC (1960), school's first MAC title (1976), Mid-Am (1985), and Mid-Continent (1989-91, 1994). Six-time loop Coach of Year (1976, 1985, 1989-91, 1994). Created Midwestern Invitational with national field (Ohio State, Michigan, etc.). (1980s). Illinois transfer and won frosh grid numeral (1949). Won "NI" letters in football (3) and golf (1). Played (624 career ground yards) for "Chick" Evans (1950-52), started on IIAC champs (1951), and led team in rushing (339 yards) as senior (1952). Made All-Decade grid unit (1999). Served as NIU frosh grid and cage coach in grad school (1954-55). Returned to campus as aide in football and basketball (1957-58). Coached NIU men's & women's golf (1982-86). All-league RB at Chicago Heights Bloom Twp.
