Hall of Fame
The first head coach in the history of NIU Volleyball, Lou Jean Moyer led the Huskie women’s volleyball program for five seasons from 1970-74 and was a pioneer in women’s collegiate athletics. As the head coach of the Huskies, Moyer guided NIU to a 75-43 record in five seasons, including a 26-10 mark during the 1973 season.
In addition to coaching, Moyer served in a number of leadership roles in the growth of women's collegiate athletics. Dr. Moyer was President of the National Association for Girls and Women in Sports (NAGWS) and served on the Executive Board of the Association of Intercollege Athletics for Women (AIAW) where she represented Region 5 and assisted in the creation of the policies and procedures for the AIAW. Dr. Moyer also served as the AIAW Ethics and Eligibility Chair and she later became one of the donors to the AIAW Title IX Women’s’ Sports Governance Fund.
A long-time member of the NIU faculty, scholarship in the NIU Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education is named in her honor.
