Two-sport All-IIAC star. One of top draft picks in Northern Illinois baseball history. Tabbed in third-round by New York Yankees in MLB common draft (June, 1966). Spent three years as outfielder in Yankee system and played Triple A ball with Syracuse Chiefs (1968). Ended career due to injuries (broken neck and shoulder) after crashing into wall on catch in Waterbury, CT. Interested scouts by hitting .329 (24 hits and 73 at-bats with team-high four home runs and 19 RBIs in 20 games), making First-Team All-IIAC, and receiving votes for IIAC Player of Year on 13-6-1 loop runners-up as junior (1966). Named loop Player of Week for 10th inning, three-run homer the "Shot Heard `Round the IIAC"?in 7-5 triumph vs. Central Michigan (1966). Recorded .285 career Huskie batting mark (53-of-186). Key sixth man or regular at point guard as frosh in basketball. Won two IIAC Player of Week awards producing (1) 16 points and five rebounds vs. Illinois State and (2) career-best 28 points on 11-of-14 from floor and 6-of-6 at foul line vs. Western Illinois in frosh year. Finished No. 4 in team scoring (8.6 ppg.) and notched 10 twin-digit scoring contests as soph (1964-65). Wound up No. 2 in team points and 13th in IIAC scoring (12.5 ppg.), made Second-Team All-IIAC, and notched 14 double-figure point games (five 20-pt. outings) as junior. Hit season-best 25 points vs. Western Michigan (1965-66). Collected 644 career points. Won 16 letters and made All-State in four sports at Boone (IA) High. Inducted into the BHS Hall of Fame.
